On Top Of The World, The World On Top Of You...

Life isn't always easy.  In fact, some days it's damn hard.  Some days you might feel on top of the world, other days you feel like the world is on top of you.  The good news is that EVERYONE has those days.  Your not the only one, your not crazy, and your not alone.

I think that the most successful people in life, learn to plow through those hard days regardless of how weak or down they feel.  They hitch up their socks, and keep on keeping on.  Eventually the clouds lift and the sun comes out and the day is bright and full of color again.  Granted it may only last an hour or two before you are dragged back under again, but the point is you broke through the surface and were able to take a breath before sinking back down beneath that weight.

That breath will sustain you until the next break through.  Eventually, you will find the sun more and more often, and find that happiness has crept back upon you out of the darkness to bathe you in its welcome glow once again.  You will find rightness in your world, your shoulders will straighten, and you will once again walk tall.

It's simply the nature of life, to run in cycles like these.  Just about everything on the planet runs in a cycles, so why should your emotions or happiness be any different? The important thing is to not get lost beneath the weight, to not get lost in the dark.

One of the best ways to plow through and throw the world off your shoulders is to find gratitude in even the littlest things in life.  Take a moment to take stock of all the great things in your life, the great people, the great family and friends, the great experiences, everything and anything you can be grateful for in your life.

When you take time to assess all of the things in the world that you appreciate, you find that the things weighing you down may not be so heavy after all.  Then again, maybe they are.  Only you walk in your shoes.  But finding the things to be grateful for each day is like taking another step forward, out of the shadows, into the light.  Keep on keeping on, and before you know it happiness will have found you yet again.

Yours Truly

Devoloping Compassion In A Crazy World

Compassion for other people is an admirable trait we should all try to cultivate.  Nothing helps to put things into perspective better than a healthy dose of compassion for those that may not be as fortunate as us.  So what is compassion exactly?  It is sort of a form of sympathy.  The ability to put yourself into another person's situation and really imagine what it would be like to walk in their shoes.  To be able to visualize being in their predicament, and  recognize that their pain or frustration is every bit as real and valid as our own, if not more so.

Showing compassion can really enhance someones sense of gratitude and good fortune.  And with a bit of practice, compassion can be learned.  It's pretty simple really, compassion is centered around just two things.  Actions and intentions.  Intentions are the intent to open yourself up to others and their plights, and to expand on who matters within your small circle of existence.

Action by definition, is just what you end up doing about it.  For instance volunteering at your local youth group to help out with needy children, or donating time or money to your favorite charity.  Maybe you will do something simple like give someone a hug, or smile as you pass them in the street.  The what you do isn't so important as just the doing.

Develop your sense of gratitude by practicing compassion.  It helps you to forget all the little things that seem so insurmountable sometimes, and to focus on the actual business of life, which is a miracle in and of itself.  Let go of all the small stuff and focus on what matters.

Resolve To Do It...

It's easy in life to get sidetracked, distracted, and thrown off course.  It gets even easier when you allow your mind to entertain the thought that something you want could never happen.  That's why instead of allowing yourself to entertain that negative thought, you have to flip the script and resolve to yourself that it WILL happen.

You have to resolve to MAKE it happen.  Nothing in life is free, and nobody will do your stuff for you.  They are too busy doing their own stuff, and really, how is doing it FOR you going to help you?  You won't learn from it, or grow from it, or gain life experience from it.  You will just find that when the next task comes along that you aren't comfortable doing, you will want someone one to do THAT for you as well.  It becomes too easy to fall into a cycle of never getting things done.

Success in life takes action, and resolve to make it happen.  Think about the last time you were running late to get to a class or a meeting, and you gave up before you even left because you thought 'I am already running late, I will never make it'.  So then of course guess what?  You NEVER make it.

Now think about how it would have been different if you resolved to make it anyway?  Just jumped in your car, took off and made your way there... More than likely you may have been a few minutes late but still made it for the important parts, or still had enough time to derive value from it.  You would never have done that if you hadn't made up your mind and resolved to do so.

You will find that when you make up your mind and resolve to do something, the world starts to work in your favor and helps you to get it done!  It's not magic, or coincidence,  it's simply science.  When you resolve to make something happen your mind then becomes open to new avenues of possibility that allow you to MAKE it happen.  It's just that simple.  So what will you make happen today? What will YOU resolve to do?

@SusanPreston and @dpinc

An event such as #JVAL wouldn't be complete with out getting to spend time with good people and friends like the Prestons.  Susan and David are awesome, kind hearted people who always look to give first, receive second.

And this event also happened to be Susan's 2nd 'official' speaking engagement, all about TwitterMuscle.com.  The response to the presentation she did together with @RonDavies was phenomenal, and I wish her much luck in all her future goals with TwitterMuscle.

(If you'd like further information about TwitterMuscle, feel free to contact @SusanPreston or @RonDavies directly!)

David was his usual funny self as well, and I had a blast spending time with the both of them.  He only needed his missing sidekick @WillieCrawford to make the event complete! ;)  Ah well, maybe next time.

Cori

@thestorylady is a beautiful person...

Another special person I got to meet for the second time at one of Ken McArthur's events, was @thestorylady also known as Ronda DelBoccio.  She also has a great canine friend named Molly, who is her guide dog.  Molly happens to like when I feed her bacon! lol

Anyway, it was a pleasure and a joy to connect with her again, and to see the things she is up to now.  If you aren't yet following her, please do so especially if you are a writer yourself!  She has tons to offer in both wisdom and experience, and you will only enrich yourself by getting to know her.

Best regards,

Cori

Very kind, very sweet people, I really enjoyed spending some time with them and only wished I could have spent more!  Unfortunately we missed out on sight seeing together, but hopefully next time.  If you aren't yet following them Tweeps, I highly suggest you do so, as they are phenomenal, and have alot of value to give!  And be sure to try the #Qivana! ;)

Also be sure to check out Jonothan's website, as he will be posting photos of #JVAL soon, and you can see first hand all the fun we were having!

Creativity Is Paramount...

Creativity is such an important part of a writer's job description.  If you lose your penchant for creativity, you have lost interest in your craft and you have lost the interest of your readers.  Creativity is the difference between educating some one, or inspiring them.

It is so readily apparent when a writer isn't connected with their creative spark.  Everything they write rings dull and bland, and in most cases bores their reader to tears.

Creativity should be the driving force behind putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys)!  If writing has become nothing more than a job and a paycheck to you, it's time to reevaluate your strategy, and consider a new profession.

Can a writer be successful with out creativity? Sure.  But why would you want to BE a writer in the first place with out that spark of creativity?  The craft of writing is in and of itself a creative endeavor.  Writing is a creative profession.  Even if you write nothing more than instructional text books or something of that nature, you still NEED creativity.

That text book can either teach the student by engaging them in the reading and sparking their interest and inspiration...  or it can teach the student by boring them to tears and inspiring them to swear off school  forever!

Even if you don't always feel inspired, or your topic you are writing about seems less than interesting, always at least shoot for creativity.  You will at in most cases land somewhere close to the mark and be a better writer for it.

Writing, and writing well is such a powerful tool to utilize.  When you are a great writer you have the ability to touch your readers.  You have the ability to speak to them with all the letters of the alphabet, and resonate somewhere inside them with your words.  Creative writers have that power.  Writers just looking to get paid, who don't strive for that creative spark, do not.

So how about you?  Are you looking to move someone? Or just get paid?

Best Regards,

Cori
