TWITTER HOW-TO TIP #83
In-Tweet Social Bookmarks (del.icio.us and others). Yes, it is possible to place and encourage social bookmarking from links placed directly in a Twitter post.
EXAMPLE:
The secret is revealed by clicking the EXAMPLE link above, then clicking the THIRD link in the static page tweet displayed (Look for: Save->). You'll be taken to del.icio.us where you can bookmark this tweet (thank you), but before you bookmark, copy the URL displayed in your browser address bar while on the del.icio.us page (save for future use). This URL is the format you'll work from, modifying it for your own Twitter needs. You basically append the del.icio.us URL with your own URL and TITLE.
Once your del.icio.us bookmark URL has been modified for your personal use, test the URL (it'll be a really long one), and if it works, shorten it at any tiny URL redirect service (like Bit.ly or budurl.com) before posting it as part of your Tweet.
My example (above) is a bit more advanced because it actually bookmarks the very static Twitter page of my tweet (a page that did not exist at the moment I posted). Worry not, we can cover this in my Advanced Twitter Club, recommended after tip #100. This Twitter secret works with many of the social bookmarking services. Get creative, have fun.
