¡Happy Thanksgiving! True happiness is born of contentment, which is only possible thru gratitude.. (|_|*cheers*|_|)

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” —Melody Beattie

The above quote is from my Thanksgiving post, "
Thankfully grateful or gratefully thankful?" I do hope you'll take a few moments to read it as it's about much more than the holiday at hand & may offer some food, er, coffee for tho't. ^_^

With both the power of 3 & 13 at work on this 3rd Friday the 13th in a year, may its unique energy lend itself to you..

Happy Birthday, G'ma, I miss you with all my heart & all to pieces but forever more full for being yours!

From my blog post, "YOU so silly!"

Today would have been G’ma’s 86th birthday.. I’m trying to set aside my sadness in order to be just a little extra silly in her honor as she well understood the power of a smile. Those smiles will see us thru our current transition while we seek an apartment in San Francisco & make what just may be our final major life change. I know she’d be proud of us for not only following our hearts but moving back near family & she’d especially love that her great granddaughter will be living w/us since she personified the idea of family first in an amazing, welcoming way. I love you G’ma & continue to be inspired by you every day! <3 xox

PS: The pictured quote's likely inaccurately attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson but its philosophy was perfectly embodied by my G'ma Peg.

We've partied w/spirits, honored the saints & now we celebrate the dead.. Let's remember the souls who've touched ours!

Day of the Dead - Band by mnd.ctrl on Flickr®

True to the spirit of [Hallowe'en], El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) represents a mixture of Christian devotion with Pre-Hispanic traditions & beliefs. The result of Catholic Spaniards & the native Aztecs in what has since become Mexico influencing each other, it continues to incorporate other cultures. Every culture in its own time & distinct fashion has come to understand Truth. Whenever we try to segregate those truths or traditions, we lose much of what it truly means to be part of the human race. We are all one & most dynamic when our traditions are kept alive; in a phenomenal, thought-provoking, life- (& death-) honoring mix.

What IS a coffeesister? What better time to explain than National #Coffee Day?! Hope you had a great one!?

My favorite book by Robert A. Heinlein, "Stranger in a Strange Land" (a title I relate to ALL too well ~_^), explains sharing water can symbolize a willingness to connect. Those who share themselves w/the water become waterbrothers. As coffee's the best use of water ^_^, I consider it tangible friendship; making coffeesiblings of we who grok over a shared hot beverage..

Remembering not only 9/11 but the "true spirit" such a day reveals; rather than yield, we must unite, still..

September 11 Tribute In Lights by Sister72 on Flickr®

Let us renew the true spirit of that day. Not the human capacity for evil, but the human capacity for good. Not the desire to destroy, but the impulse to save, and to serve, and to build. On this first National Day of Service and Remembrance, we can summon once more that ordinary goodness of America – to serve our communities, to strengthen our country, and to better our world.

Most of all, on a day when others sought to sap our confidence, let us renew our common purpose. Let us remember how we came together as one nation, as one people, as Americans, united not only in our grief, but in our resolve to stand with one another, to stand up for the country we all love.

This may be the greatest lesson of this day, the strongest rebuke to those who attacked us, the highest tribute to those taken from us – that such sense of purpose need not be a fleeting moment. It can be a lasting virtue.

We MUST honor Senator Kennedy's amazing legacy w/the long overdue #healthcare reform he helped create.. #IpromisedTeddy
Ted Kennedy recently penned "The Cause Of My Life" to describe his dedication to universal health care:
This is the cause of my life. It is a key reason that I defied my illness last summer to speak at the Democratic convention in Denver—to support Barack Obama, but also to make sure, as I said, "that we will break the old gridlock and guarantee that every American…will have decent, quality health care as a fundamental right and not just a privilege." For four decades I have carried this cause—from the floor of the United States Senate to every part of this country. It has never been merely a question of policy; it goes to the heart of my belief in a just society. Now the issue has more meaning for me—and more urgency—than ever before. But it's always been deeply personal, because the importance of health care has been a recurrent lesson throughout most of my 77 years.

“For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts.”

"Relax, don't fight it, it's out of your control."

I know what You're saying: Relax, don't fight it, it's out of your control. It will all be over soon enough. That is where faith comes in. I mean, we're born alone, we die alone.. but, for some reason, You've made us live together. Will You ever do something miraculous, something tangible, something to save us from ourselves? Or are You just up there laughing on Your throne, dangling some lifeline we'll never really get to see.

sunset over an ebbing tide
The sun fades like the spreading
Of a peacock's tail, as though twilight
Might be read as a warning to those desperate
For easy solutions

I know what You're saying: Relax, don't fight it, it's out of your control. What is broken can be made whole, what is dirty can become clean & resentment can become forgiveness. And, maybe, just maybe, it could shape the future & I have faith in that. — William Banks, The Cleaner, "Split Ends"

“A mountain is composed of tiny grains of earth. The ocean is made up of tiny drops of water. Even so, life is but an endless series of little details, actions, speeches, and thoughts. And the consequences – whether good or bad – of even the least of them are far-reaching.” — Sivananda
