“You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”
Adrian Pierce Rogers (September 12, 1931 – November 15, 2005), was an American pastor, conservative, author, and a three-term president of the Southern Baptist Convention (1979-1980 and 1986-1988).
This is one of my favorite pieces to play - who cares if Christmas is still months away!
Bought a cable to connect my keyboard to my computer. It's really for guitars, but with a splitter and an adaptor, it works. Been playing around with recording from the keyboard right into audacity, then exporting as an mp3 file. Wow this is FUN!!! Here's the first halfway decent recording I've done: Amazing Grace.
Somebody asked me the other day if I knew any songs with the word Twitter in it. Well, I thought of one this morning that has Tweet in it a lot. This is a song that I learned about 45 years or so ago, off of a children's record. I think it was a 78, matter of fact.
This was recorded using the mic in my laptop through Audacity, then exported to an mp3 file. I don't yet know how to eliminate that slight analog hiss in the background, so I'm a little frustrated over that. However - to those people who asked to hear me sing (and you know who you are) I hope this answers your question. **grin**
Allelujah is one of my favorite soothing melodies. Here's my off the cuff rendition: I put the laptop on top of the piano, started Audacity, and recorded this in one take, then figured out how to export it as an mp3 when I discovered .wav format isn't supported on TwitWall.
Next on my agenda: learn how to record digitally so I don't have that analog hiss.
So it's sort of a joke, but a learning experience nonetheless - I did a fast recording of a song with Audacity, then exported it as a .wav, converted to mp3, and am uploading it to see how this works.
It's not a GOOD recording, but I'm after the joke effect and the practice doing this more than trying to impress anybody. This oughta be good for a laugh, anyway.
It's official - I'm Squidicted to Squidoo.
Wooden-Kitchen was Lens of the Day 2 weeks after I joined Squidoo.
Then, I became a Fresh Squid for 30 days, and actually won the Fresh Squid Contest for September Fresh Squids. Then came my Fresh Squid Graduation. That was amazingly FUN!!!
Bob and I took the cutting boards to Eureka in October for the Halloween Harvest Festival where I met some amazing artists and crafts-people. I took lots of photos and a couple of short films, and made the Festival lens plus a few individual lenses for some of the artists. There are some amazing crafters living behind the Redwood Curtain, many of whom don't even have e-mail. I have a video on the Halloween Harvest Festival site of Samba Daramy who hand weaves amazingly beautiful and USEFUL baskets, as well as one of a young man who sculpts balloons. I have one more video to edit and upload - I filmed a spinner using a drop spindle, which will be on the Harvest Festival lens as soon as I complete it.
Bob's Heritage Heirloom cutting boards were spotlighted in the Eureka Times Standard: the clip is on Wooden-Kitchen, which has also been featured on the Holiday Shopping Cooperative page at Squidoo.
Cross your fingers for me - I'm going to try to become a Giant Squid (50 high quality lenses plus a few more things) when they induct again at the end of December. So far I have 36 completed and 2 works in progress, so I basically need to build 12 more and finish the 2 I've started, plus improve the 30 that I don't think are good enough for a Giant Squid. You can see all my lenses on my profile page.
That's it for now - remember, Tweet Well, Tweet Often, and use your Twit-Wall, too! Have fun!
