The KNOW Theatre has an interesting history

KNOW Theatre, 74 Carroll Street, Binghamton, NY 13901
In 1992, Tim Gleason, 2009 recipient of the Heart the Arts Award and Artistic Director of the KNOW Theatre, and a group of dedicated actors founded KNOW Theatre with the hopes of bringing professional quality theater to the Binghamton community. In the beginning years, Tim produced a myriad of shows, moving the company between church basements and other temporary venues. He was driven by his dream of enhancing the quality of life in the Binghamton community while sharing the magic of theater with other actors and his audience.
Tim began pursuing a permanent space for the company to call home. In 2006, KNOW Theatre found a home at 74 Carroll Street in the Old Central Fire Station. Working with the owner, they converted the space into a black box theater (New York City Off Broadway type house). The Theater seats up to 86 with permanent theater-conference room seats installed on a raised platform for 76. It is the only theater of its type in Binghamton. The permanent space has allowed the comapny to expand rapidly over the last three years.
In its time the Binghamton City Stage company has; imported off-Broadway directors and movie playwrights; produced well-known favorites and rarely produced gems; established an annual playwright's festival that has garnered attention from around the region and the world for its unique combination of art, theater, and music; offered education opportunities including classes and workshops; established a gallery space for First Friday artists, and established a venue through the Binghamton City Stage, where artists of all levels and experience can present their work.
