25 Random Rebeccatoids

My friend, Judy Kinney, tagged me the other day on twitter. I get to tell you 25 random things about myself, and tag 25 others to do the same. Here are the Judytoids.

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, ideally, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. Post it on your FB page, twitwall.com or your blog. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged, including me.

Only play if it’s fun for you and you want to.

25 Random Rebeccatoids:

  1. I am fascinated with physics, alchemy and anything that is mystical. Fairies and chemistry have always been part of my inner world.
  2. I am an artist. I have an insatiable need to create that cannot be quenched. I am constantly inventing things. I think Leondardo DaVinci and I would have had a great time having coffee and brainstorming.
  3. My middle name is LaVer. I think it is really “laver” which means “to wash” in French but my family changed the way it’s written to look more aristocratic. I’m okay with that.
  4. I dream of an exquisite, art-filled, earth friendly home that’s bright, warm and inviting with a separate cob-built studio on a gorgeous piece of property with water and lavender plants all around.
  5. I drove across Australia from Sydney to Perth. On the way, I got to crawl to the edge of the Great Australian Byte and look down.It was a looong way down. There wasn't a railing. I felt brave.
  6. I’m passionate about entrepreneurship. I’ve had the opportunity to express my creativity through many different businesses but have realized that the only one that works for me is my art. I’m grateful knowing that art is my life’s mission.
  7. I have a passion for very fine, dark chocolate and am a Oregon pinot noir snob. Owen Roe is my favorite so far.
  8. When I was six, I kicked the windows out of my grandpa’s camper and pickup truck because I got tired of bouncing around in the back and they wouldn’t let me out. If only cell phones were around back then. I could have avoided the whole fiasco and spanking that ensued.
  9. Rebecca means a “little cord that binds.” I like to think that’s why I enjoy creating community so much.
  10. In 1999, I sold my first group of paintings to a collector in NYC off the internet. I was hooked! This was before people were accustomed to viewing and buying art off the internet. I knew this was an extraordinary development for artists and the art world.
  11. I had the mumps on my one and only trip to Disneyland. I want to try it again sometime but without the mumps.
  12. I’ve been a certified aromatherapist and Level II Reiki Practitioner for 25 years.
  13. The greatest nightmare of my life was when a tinker-toy caterpillar fought with the Werewolf of London in my bedroom closet.
  14. I used to do Lakota sweats with Servando Trujillo outside Santa Fe, New Mexico and Austin, TX. After stepping out of my first sweat I could see for miles. Everything was crystal clear and crisp in the moonlight. About 10 minutes later I realized I didn’t have my glasses on. I want to get back to that state of seeing.
  15. I used to want to be Jacques Cousteau; just little me, the ocean and a French accent.
  16. I have had black, green, orange, red, blonde, platinum, chestnut, burgundy and coffee colored hair…just not at the same time. Except one accident where I had orange hair and green bangs. Not a pretty look for me.
  17. I still miss my friend Steven Bradley who danced with the Joffrey Ballet. We met in 80’s Houston, painting tattoos on people in nightclubs. He died of aids in 1995. He was a beautiful person.
  18. I once stood in an art dealer’s home in Las Vegas, in front of an original Modigliani, Picasso pottery, countless other famous works of art and a sketch of Frida Kahlo by Diego Rivera drawn on the back of wrapping paper. I had to excuse myself to the bathroom to cry.
  19. I play a mean game of pool once I’m drunk – but not too drunk.
  20. Some of my favorite childhood memories were at the OregonCoast with my family. My mom showed me my first Gumboot Chiton there. I loved exploring the tidal pools...still do.
  21. Jaws and Planet of the Apes were the two scariest movies of my childhood. I almost birthed my son watching JurassicPark. Great white sharks and T-Rex’s still scare me.
  22. I was accepted to SmithCollege on early acceptance and was the only artist in Chapin House which was full of math and science majors. My poor housemates had to put up with my shenanigans. Tori Hughes, renowned polymer clay artist, was my first artist-making-it-happen role model and friend there.
  23. My favorite National Geographic had an angel fish on the cover. When I was in Aitutaki, Cook Islands, I saw that same kind of angel fish. It was like the magazine was floating in the water right by my toes!
  24. I am grateful to have two beautiful, exuberant, healthy children who are 10 years apart and an adoring husband who, after 11 years, still calls me his “bride.”
  25. I love to travel, explore, meet people and learn about other cultures. My favorite spot so far has been Ubud, Bali. The people, culture and art are exquisite. It’s been 15 years and I want to travel again. It inspires me and makes me remember how we’re all so connected.
