7 Fun Ways To Expand Your Twitter Circle

1. Change avatar now and then. Twitter is alive and dynamic, not static. Swapping your photo out now and then ensures that your "real live personhood" shines through. It also helps draw more eyes to your Tweets when the same picture is not there month after month.

2. Update your Twitter background now and then. Twitter offers some attractive default options in your Settings area, but if you want to brand your page, use Twitbacks for free. (If you’re an IBN member, you get a discount on custom Twitter background design.)

3. Tweet someone you don’t know from Adam. Let them know you enjoy their Tweets, like their Twitter page or whatever. This is a fun way to expand your sphere of influence and maybe meet a new friend.

4. Share something about yourself that you think you have in common with others. You'll be surprised at the number of people who will tell you that they share your interest, and perhaps join your Twitter circle.

5. Tweet a picture using Twitpic. I have read that people are more likely to click on a Tweet with a picture. They may also comment back through the picture, which gets the Tweet and photo in the Twitterverse more than once.

6. Use Twittwall to share information that is too long for a Tweet and too short or “off the cuff” for a full on blog post.

7. Use at least two Twitter pages, one for your business brand and the other for your real name. Link one to the other, depending on how you Twitter. Example: http://twitter.com/donnamaria leads people to http://twitter.com/indiebusiness. This way, whether people search for you by name or brand name, they can find you.

Question: What fun methods do you employ to expand your Twitter circle?
