EU increases efforts to fight drug trafficking in Peru next year
Lima, Sep. 12 (ANDINA).- The European Union (EU) is committed to increase next year the cooperation and assistance to Peru in order to fight illicit drug trafficking, the President of the National Commission for Development and a Life without Drugs (Devida), Romulo Pizarro said.
“We received a letter from the Commissioner responsible for External Relations, Benita Ferrero Waldner, in which she said she understands the problem, encourages Peruvian efforts, and added that next year we will receive greater commitment from the European Union,” he told Andina News Agency.
In this document, she expresses the desire and interest of the European Commission to continue with cooperation in coordination with Peruvian government in order to fight illicit drug trafficking.
Romulo Pizarro highlighted the desire of the European Commission in analyzing new cooperation possibilities in this field, such as it happened in the strategy for regional cooperation.
“We have already demanded greater contribution to the European Union, that is why we visited Europe to discuss this issue with representatives of this bloc,” he added.
